Matchup tips
Ghulams are a strong front line against Sipahi and decent against Janissaries.
Be careful about the dervish build. If you don't invest in outposts, you don't necessarily see what's coming over the hill, and an all-in Ottoman play can shut you down before your game even begins.
When you get five or six Manjaniq toggled to incendiary shots, they do massive damage to any unit. But Ottomans can deal with it using their best horsemen, which tank the shots and take down siege with relative ease.
Sipahi are just as effective as Camel Lancers DPS-wise.
Imams can't heal themselves and move really slow, while the dervish is much faster and can heal itself.
When you're dealing with Ottomans, you kind of need to slow down that mass that they build. With Ottomans, the longer it goes, the more units they get for free, which in turn they're just going to have a bigger army than you. But when you have those three villager boost, you have a little bit of an advantage at least at the start.
If you have four or five Manjaniq, everything the Ottoman has falls apart. With many Janissaries, you cannot make any more cavalry units. Your best bet is a ranged mass with the Manjaniq and then a bunch of spears of your own. Spears would be your play with Manjaniq.
If the Ottoman is making pure Janissaries, you can't just keep throwing cavalry like Camel Lancers into them. You need to add archers.
Because of their high damage to cavalry, Janissaries don't get surrounded easily. Camel Lancers and Desert Raiders can die to them without costing the Janissaries anything.
We're used to ayyubids using dervishes to get relics quickly, but Ottomans can do it even faster with their Imam.
In a long feudal, Sipahi feel pretty damn good against Desert Raiders because they just wipe them so fast and with the extra range they can even chase and very quickly kill a Dervish.
The logic of Desert Raiders is idling the gold, but against an opponent using Military Schools to generate units instead of mining gold, it loses its effectiveness.
Dervishes can heal while moving, but Imams cannot. This allows Dervishes to kite and kill Imams if they are brought out.
Going mass Camel Lancers against Janissaries is the worst choice because Janissaries already counter them.
Janissaries are too immobile to effectively deal with Camel Lancer raids.
