So the long bows will be the choice. With the long bows, you are in a position where you can potentially make damage happen and force your opponent to get extra units. Japan is not usually keen on the horsemen play, and Byzantine horsemen are just a little bit better, so you can make a lot of work happen with those long bows.
If you go for the Silk Road contract, javelins counter Onna-Musha, and then the camels debuff the Mounted Samurai, so your Cataphracts with Cisterns especially win the fight.
Hit the Mounted Samurai with a Scout to take away their deflective armor with your lowest DPS unit.
Javelins will overkill Yumi a lot, so Yumi feel really bad against them.
Yumi are great against one thing and one thing only: the Limitanei. If you take out the Limitanei, you can use your Mounted Samurai.
