The early unit massing for China in this matchup can be enough to potentially break Macedonians. They produce so many units that you can immediately go on the aggression and Macedonians don't like extended feudal age gameplay. Even if the Macedonians go for mass Varangians in feudal age, Zhuge Nu do incredible against that as well.
China's early pressure is very hard for Macedonians to withstand, but if China doesn't deal significant damage, the matchup gets tricky in Castle Age.
Ridari do not charge, so they can't use charge to move faster like other knights.
It does take a little while for those Varangians to come online. Realistically, you can only afford the second tier upgrade around minute 10 or so if you actually play efficiently.
Archers is China's most popular feudal strat, but do you really ever want to be building archers against Macedonians?
You just can't beat horsemen on horsemen when it's Macedonians.
Macedonians are weaker on economy though because you've got the supervision to give extra on drop off.
Spears seem like a good threat against Ridari until you realize how stacked they get.
Bogmafr are good enough to contest Chinese archers.
Macedonian towers are the most dangerous because the mango placement upgrades with range damage and Macedonians can get double the range damage increases of any other civ in the game.
The champion scout has the same health as a castle knight, but he heals and doesn't die easily. So affording six spearmen and a Barbican to defend against it on time is not easy.
Nest of Bees with Palace Guard is a slick combo. Bogmaðr and crossbows can't hang around long against two Nest of Bees, and Palace Guard in chokepoints don't fall fast. With spears as the backbone, Palace Guard is his worst nightmare.
Atgeirmaðr have more health and scaling attack speed when they're grouped together. They're a potent play if China tries to go fast tech because you'll need them against Lancers.
Bogmaðr can be very fast and get additional range, making them a good counter to Zhuge Nu.
