The danger of Order of the Dragon is that their units, they may not have as many numbers, but they pound-for-pound will beat you up. Spreading them wide is the way to beat them. But if they don't have to spread wide and just take a big central fight, more often than not, they will come out on top.
Two Gilded Horsemen are enough to deal with the English King.
It takes the English king five hits to kill a gilded worker.
If you have a scout, you can make it four hits to kill a gilded worker with the English king.
The King is always such a nice unit to have on these hybrid maps because you can just put him inside of a transport ship and carry him over to your opponent's side and then you'll immediately have a unit to contest your opponent. On the other hand though, Order of the Dragon only need a single spearman to contest the King just because their spearman are really good.
He will want to put the Abbey of Kings also on the shoreline to heal up all the ships there.
He could also just age up with the Berkshire Palace; the Berkshire itself has enough range to allow you to guarantee get back on water.
With Order of the Dragon, their villagers have a 28% bonus gather speed, it's quite massive. And they have tankier units, but that does not apply to siege or to ships.
Gilded crossbows have 6 range; longbows have 7 range. Longbows outrange them.
Gilded archers cost 100 wood each; losing your mass is devastating because they're hard to rebuild.
Gilded crossbows have 16 base damage and 18 bonus versus heavy; knights stand no chance.
Gilded knights have 400 health, making them extremely tanky.
Prelates can heal gilded units, making them even harder to kill if not finished off.
Opening Abbey of Kings gives the English a free King unit, which forces a costly reaction from Order of the Dragon because their barracks are expensive. This allows English to press land and win water.
Inspired Warriors tech can give Gilded Archers up to 6 ranged armor, allowing them to punish an English opponent who didn't build the White Tower.
