You cannot really go archers in this matchup as Malian because Golden Horde has plus two armor in castle on armored units. So you kind of have to go Donso Sofa. Malian's strength is obviously going for mass sofa plus archer, but that becomes pretty uncomfortable very quickly if Golden Horde reaches castle.
Golden Horde's mid-game spike from Muscovy Yasak is extra ranged armor, but it doesn't help much against Malians spamming Sofa; even against Donso javelin throws, removing two damage is minor against the spam.
