One of the cool things about Abbasids is that you actually see the wing being built on the House of Wisdom. So you can just look at the building as the opposing player and see what the age up actually is, unless you play on low graphics in which case you cannot.
If camels come out early, mounted samurai won't have the raw power to fight them even with numbers.
The movement banner (Uma Bannerman) offsets the camel debuff, making mounted samurai neck and neck with camels, and they ignore the initial lance charge.
When facing potential camel archers, an outpost investment is usually worth it.
Even though horsemen get debuffed by camel riders, adding horsemen is a clean way to deal with crossbows and allows you to stick to cavalry, optimizing around a single Onna Banner Man.
Onna Bugeisha is great against camels and crossbows. Camels have no melee armor unless you get Camel Shielding, so they get shredded by Bugeisha.
Camel archers counter shinobi; you get double damage against them.
Camel Shielding gives camels +3 melee armor, making them reasonable against Onna Bugeisha.
Camel Riders are not as effective against Mounted Samurai because their charge gets blocked by Mounted Samurai's Deflective Armor and the Uma Bannerman's attack bonus.
Against Abbasid, knowing they'll have an anti-cavalry composition with camel riders, Japan should consider opening with an archery range or barracks for infantry instead of mounted Samurai, since Japan is an infantry civilization.
Abbasid has a response to fast Castle with the military wing; the free units can go for your dock or straight to your base to idle resources, making a fast Castle trickier to pull off.
To take down Camel Riders with Yumi Ashigaru, you're going to need a metric ton of them to actually do something.
I really like the Military Wing approach because you get two archers immediately without building an archery range or spending wood, giving you a counter to Shinobi if you micro well enough.
