If you go for the Koka Township and get the Shinobi, you can get onto the Golden Tent and stop the age up from continuing by sabotaging it.

You want to really avoid being stuck in the feudal age as Japanese. Although Yumi Ashigaru trade very well against normal archers with the Bannerman, throw Batu Khan with plus 5% damage in the feudal age and suddenly it doesn't feel that good.

The Golden Horde outpost rush is a little bit funky, a little bit different, but has value. Trying to burn down the outpost is very difficult because they're a lot tankier.
