If the Sengoku player places the Matsuri outside Town Center range, the Japanese player can aim to torch it down with spearmen, committing to around five spearmen to do so.

When you're up against Sengoku Daimyo and you go for a dark age rush, they don't really care when they got the matsuri on the wood because they can just sell 130 wood and have enough for the age up.

Japanese gets the Onna Musha. Sengoku daimyo do not have the Onna Musha available to them.

One thing to keep in mind is that Sengoku can heal his knights with his priest, whereas with Japanese, he really cannot. So these trades where they both lose HP but nothing dies are actually good for Sengoku.
