It usually comes down to the first few knights because if you screw up your positioning and lose Jean, you kind of lose all influence.
If you have good positioning and protect Jean, all those knights get low, then Jean can snipe them with her range form.
Wheelbarrow is much harder to achieve in the dark age for Jean than French, which is why you usually skip it.
Jean wants to be hugging a tree line so she can't be accessed by knights, otherwise they can run past you.
Hugging gold outcroppings makes Jean hard to access because knights path oddly around gold veins, causing them to run around and lose effectiveness.
In these knight vs knight battles, the condition of your knights, the HP that they have, is going to be a big factor. So the players will need to be a lot more careful diving underneath town centers and committing against villagers, because even if you get a villager kill, if you lose most of the HP on a knight, that's going to be troublesome. Obviously once you have Chivalry, a different story, but initially you're going to have to be very conscientious about the HP of your knights.
JD doesn't have to invest into Chivalry as early because her healing activation can be used on low-health knights. You want to use it in bigger engagements to heal up a lot of knights.
You have to take the fight before Royal Bloodlines finishes, or you won't catch up.
