Janissaries do not do bonus damage to spearmen. So spearmen are a very good, cheap meat shield for dealing with the Sipahi front line.
The Mehter takes a long time to replace if you rely on it passively. If you're just planning to ego challenge knights into knights, you're going to miss that Mehter effect for sure.
You don't want to really be building Zhuge Nu against Ottomans. That's like, 'Hey, please kill me faster.'
The spear ship kills Sipahi really well, so you don't have to worry about Sipahi countering Zhuge Nu when you've got boats like this.
